Action Jackson likes to sit and watch me crochet...
Though, she usually ends up trying to eat the yarn. No, no kitty! That's not food!
I decided yesterday that I want to watch all of the movies nominated for Best Picture before the Oscars on Sunday, which I will be watching with my friend Maggie. I'm a huge fan of movies. I've seen a lot. I mean a LOT. I started keeping count (in my handy red A to Z Subject Journal) on January 1st for how many movies I watch in 2010, and I'm currently at 53. I was actually the movie reviewer for my college newspaper!
So far, of the nominees, I've seen:
I really liked this when I saw it in theaters (totally worth the $12 for the 3D effects), but after reflection, I was a little disappointed at how closely the story follows Pocahontes. And I kind of do think this movie bought it's way into the nomination, even if it is a good movie. I gave it 3 stars in my A to Z.
I love Sandra Bullock, and this was definitely a very sweet story. And nice that it stuck very much to the true story! 3 1/2 stars.
I love sci-fi, and this was a very original concept for an alien movie. I loved the main character. 3 stars.
I had been very excited to watch this, as I've heard a lot of great things about it. It definitely delivered. It wasn't overdone/acted/directed like some war/military movies are. And it was directed by a woman (the ex-wife of James Cameron, strangely enough!), which I totally think is awesome. 4 stars.
George Clooney makes me swoon. No matter what, he's always so... debonair (though when he filmed a movie in the town I was living in a few years ago I heard some very scum-baggy things about him). I loved the isolation you felt from all of the main characters. And the fact that it wasn't a fairy tale ending. 3 1/2 stars.
Ok. I'll just say it. Really quickly, like a bandaid. I'M NOT A TARANTINO FAN! In fact, I kind of didn't like anything about this movie. I know everyone and their dog thought Brad Pitt was ammAAAAzing in this, but I kind of thought he was terrible. I really haven't liked anything Tarantino has done, with the exception of parts of Pulp Fiction and Deathproof. I just think he's a ding dong. 1 1/2 stars. (I really wouldn't watch this again)
Now for movies I've yet to see....
I'm looking forward to ALL of these! Especially... well, ALL of them!!! It should be a fun weekend movie watching and crocheting and finishing off the red velvet cake I made last week...
Have a great weekend! (and a cocktail or two)
