I'm in the middle of my first sewing project! While I've never done more than sewing up holes in various clothing items, I decided to try something new. I picked up some pretty fabric at Hancock Fabrics along with a bit of fun trim and will be magically turning it in to (drum roll, please) a table cloth!
Ok, I know it's not as exciting as say a dress, but baby steps, people! Plus, it's completely appropriate as I have a dinner party planned for Saturday night and need something to hide the fact that my 6-person table is actually two 4-person tables pushed together.
Since I didn't want to hand sew this little diddy and I didn't want to buy an expensive, albeit ideal, full-size sewing machine I grabbed this Singer Handy Stitch at Target for $14.99. While it's not the best for big projects (or even medium ones) it's perfect for the beginner sewer, aka ME!
I'm nearly finished, but Saturday will tell the final tale. Stay tuned.
I finally finished (one of) my Valentine's Day projects that I was working on for my PEO group. I was inspired by The Purl Bee's Valentine pins and added a few touches of my own...
I also made some sugar cookies (which were pretty tasty if I say so myself) and individually packaged them for each person...
It was a fun project! But I feel like I definitely don't need to see another heart-shaped anything until next February. Though I still have to finish up my Valentines for my family and friends to get out tomorrow.
(PS- sorry for the super crummy photography. I really don't like my camera... miss my old one [broken by my clumsy boyfriend] so much.)
My cousin is having a baby boy the second week of March and I really want to make her a baby blanket. I've been pondering what it should look like and what colors to use.
I really love Sarah London's Wooleater Pattern as a blanket.
My original plan was to do some sort of granny-esque blanket. Love these dots! I like these colors... maybe not for a boy though :)
I think this is so cute, but a little too complicated for me.
I LOVE this! Just can't find a free pattern (and I'm broke!)
I have a feeling it's a skill that I will need for some future adventure/mission.
Also! We should all band together and create a granny square for Planet Blanket! Jenn is collecting squares from around the world to make one great beautiful blanket :) Check it out. You know you want to!
ell, the Oughts are gone and over with. I always used to be amazed to think that my great grandparents lived during two different centuries, and now I like to think that my great grandkids will someday be amazed at me :)
We had a grand old party on New Years Eve, unfortunately my camera died about an hour into it and I have only a few badish iphone photos. It will have to do!
Cupcakes that my friend Maggie helped me to decorate!
View of the CAT bus from Patrick's living room window.
Not the best quality photo, but I think Pat looks really funny/cute here! Plus, who wear's sunglasses at night? Oh yeah, my boyfriend does!
Pat's friend, the "Party Skeleton," who clearly does not have good manners...
The route to the roof doesn't look to scary...
But it IS!!! Maggie climbed like a pro.
We eventually made it up to the roof which was no easy task!
This one is super blurry, but you can see the fireworks over the Savannah River starting in the distance. Very cool view.
The night started out with some difficulties - I almost killed myself on Patrick's bike, none of the food was completely ready when people were getting there, rain and a few other minor issues - but as the night wore on we had more champagne, and more fun! This was the first New Year's that I rang in with Patrick (in our nearly 3 years together), so it was an extra special midnight (kiss!).
Then there was 2010...
One of my resolutions is to crochet a granny square blanket and I got started over the weekend!
My very first granny squares... EVER!
I'm well on my way to a marvelous blanket! I just need to pick out more colors and I'll be good to go :)
s there are only 36.5 hours left in the year I think it's only appropriate to look back on my favorites
Favorite Song: Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros "Home"
Any song that can include "Holy Moly" (my favorite exclamation) is amazing in my book.

Favorite Band: MGMT
Ok, I know it's somewhat overdone, but I love almost everything they've done so far, and yes, our love affair may have begun in fall 2008, but it's largely been through 2009. I don't care if they're uber hipster and on a mac commercial I still rock out in my head to "Kids". so. good.
4 nights and 4 days of amazing Winston Salem. I love going back to WS because everywhere Patrick and I go we see people we love. And places we love. I am literally drained of all energy when I get back from all of the fun we have. oh yeah.
I had never watched this show until I started working at my new job this summer and I watched every single episode in time to watch the season 3 finale. I want to LIVE in that show. Mostly I want to wear every single thing that Betty does. She is my heroine of the oughts.
Let's face it, the first half of this year wasn't so great for good movies. There were a few that I watched and liked and a lot that were stinkers. There are still plenty that I haven't seen and want to, so my favorite may change once I get through my list. It seems the last several months have seen a significant improvement in film quality.
But for now, I will say that I loved "(500) Days of Summer" the best. I lurve Zooey Deschenel. For her style, acting, awkwardness, and I even like her music pretty well. The music in this movie is great - Patrick was hooked once he heard the first Smiths' song. And I'm glad they cast Joseph Gordon-Levitt as the male protagonist. He was really great and it's nice to see him in films and not think "Third Rock from the Sun, Third Rock from the Sun..."
I also really enjoyed "Gigantic" (another Z.D. flick), "Disney's Earth," "Sunshine Cleaning," "Julia & Julia," and yes, "The Hangover."
I only wish I had seen more independent films this year. If I only had the time!
_______________________________________________________________________________________ Favorite Vacation Spot: Jekyll Island, GA
Beautiful, isolated, quiet - Jekyll Island is a somewhat forgotten paradise. We go there as often as possible now that it's just an hour away, but it's the most private public beach I've ever been to before. Aside from the slight East Coast odor it's amazing. Plus the historic district and Jekyll Island Club Hotel are so much fun to visit. Go there if you ever have the chance.
